The real cost of a free website
May 12, 2026
Last year a wellness professional came to us for a website redesign. It was, in fact, not their very first website, as they had previously gone through a free website agency to get it done for their therapy practice! This sounds absolutely amazing, but the reality was that it was likely driving people away.
This sounds absolutely amazing.
Unfortunately, you get what you pay for, and in this case, it was just a random law firm template littered with lorem ipsum, random phrases about personal injury lawyers, and staying on brand with stock photos of high-rise corporate buildings.
Just have a scroll through the video, you’ll see exactly what I mean
My client offered EMDR intensives & walk-and-talk therapy; they did not, in fact, offer any legal services. (Not a lawyer)
The only thing they customized for them was the colours and logo for their wellness practice.
Nothing about the website was thoughtful, inclusive or reflected the beautiful work this therapist was really doing.
The website was live and you could visit the site but if a potential client was looking for their next therapist, I know for a fact they would open that site and close just as fast… in less than 2 seconds… and then move on to the next person on the list.

My client had no chance or opportunty to even be considered.
This is the real cost of having a free website.
Your website is a chance to convert someone who is in the consideration stage. It might be the first impression, or it’s that final visit that seals the deal for them to contact you for a consult.
This therapist’s website is now unrecognizable and BETTER! Now doing its job, giving accurate information, a little blurb about the practitioner and a call to action to their booking link.
Just look!

Perfect.
The whole redesign process took approx 4 weeks from start to finish. We included time for a logo refresh as well. So 2 weeks for design and 2 more weeks to finalize everything.
Your website is where someone decides if they trust you enough to reach out; make it simple for them.
Now, if you’re still reading and figure it’s time to refresh your site, let’s talk.
